Bitbank, one of the largest crypto asset exchanges in Japan, selected Figment as the infrastructure provider for its staking service. Staking is available to Bitbank customers in Japan, who can now earn rewards on digital assets held on the exchange without operating validator infrastructure themselves.

Bitbank has operated in Japan since 2014 with zero hacking incidents, making it one of the country’s longest-running and most secure crypto asset exchanges. It is ISMS certified and operates as a registered crypto-asset exchange service provider in Japan.

Why Bitbank selected Figment

Bitbank set a high operational and security standard, and conducted a due diligence review before selecting an infrastructure partner. Figment was assessed against that standard and selected as a qualified provider.

Figment operates under Full NORS Certification for Ethereum, SOC 2 Type II, and ISO 27001, with slashing protection. Figment is one of the largest non-custodial protocol staking providers on Ethereum with approximately 6% of staked ETH. Figment consistently outperforms the network average, making it a trusted choice for secure, institutional-grade ETH staking.

Figment’s infrastructure supports more than 1,500 institutional clients globally, including asset managers, exchanges, custodians, and foundations. Figment also serves as a named staking provider for a number of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) globally, including major asset managers such as Morgan Stanley and BlackRock.

Local support in Japan

Figment established Figment Japan G.K. in April 2025 and employs full-time native Japanese-speaking staff. Figment joined the Japan Cryptoasset Business Association (JCBA) in September 2025. Local presence means escalation paths, reporting, and operational questions are handled in Japanese and during local business hours.

“We are honored to have been selected as a staking provider for Bitbank’s Ethereum staking service. Since our founding, we have held ourselves to a high standard of security and compliance, and we have built our validator business around those principles. Bitbank places a strong emphasis on both, so being selected after their review is meaningful to us. We will apply the same operational discipline that has earned the trust of institutional clients in Japan and abroad, including as a validator for staking ETF products globally, to deliver a secure and reliable service to Bitbank’s customers.” — Manabu Iijima, Head of Japan, Figment

Staking in Japan

With recent regulatory clarity, Japan’s institutions have moved past the evaluation phase to offering digital asset services within compliant frameworks.

An exchange with Bitbank’s operating history adding staking and running a diligence process before selecting a provider is a useful signal for every institution in Japan weighing the same decision. Working with Figment gives Bitbank more than access to staking infrastructure. It gives them the controls, approvals, and reporting that a regulated environment requires.
