We are excited to announce that Figment has officially joined The Graph ecosystem as one of the three core protocol development teams for The Graph. Our participation marks the next evolution of Web 3, which as a company we strongly believe will change the world even more profoundly than the development of the Internet some 30 years ago.

How We Got Here

Figment began its decentralized journey in 2018. Since then, we have grown to become a leading provider of staking, middleware and application layer solutions for token holders and developers investing in and building on Web 3 technology. Our validator infrastructure, data indexers and developer tooling spans 40+ Proof of Stake networks, including The Graph, and is used by thousands of token holders and developers around the globe.

This experience combined with a passion for open, permissionless, and public blockchains makes Figment a perfect technical and mission driven contributor to The Graph.

Why The Graph?

The Graph is one of the most important protocols to have launched in the past year. Its indexing and querying protocol allows for fast, reliable, and secure querying of data in a decentralized way. This gives developers access to blockchain data without having to manage their own infrastructure or trust a centralized provider.

This provides open and uncensored data that is critical to the functionality of decentralized applications and networks we all know and love like Uniswap, Curve, Livepeer, and Audius. Essentially, The Graph is the decentralized data layer of the Ethereum blockchain, and we consider it core Ethereum infrastructure.

Why Figment?

In a similar vein, we saw the pain points developers were experiencing with managing complex infrastructure, which is why we built DataHub. DataHub is a centralized product that offers developers a seamless connection to blockchain APIs and open sourced indexer APIs that allows for the querying of common network data in a unified format, currently spanning across 15 Proof of Stake blockchains like Celo, NEAR, Polygon, and Solana.

This ensures that developer’s applications are always connected to the blockchain necessary to power their application. So what will we be doing on The Graph?

A Multi-Chain Future

We believe that the future of Web 3 is multi-chain and decentralized, and so does The Graph Foundation. We will help bring The Graph to more blockchain ecosystems and ultimately build this core decentralized infrastructure across all of the Web 3 ecosystem.

“We are excited to establish a stronger presence on The Graph by becoming one of the three core development teams. The Graph is the most robust decentralized indexing protocol in the world, and we look forward to bringing this core infrastructure to more blockchain ecosystems.

Our DataHub service offers a premium solution for developers building on blockchains. That said, it is centralized. Joining The Graph will allow us to build a decentralized and more censorship-resistant alternative, which we believe will further drive blockchain development and create a more diverse Web 3 ecosystem.”

Andrew Cronk, Co-Founder, Chief Product Officer at Figment

“We're thrilled to have Figment join The Graph as a core dev and grow the developer horsepower. The Figment team's experience with node infrastructure and multi-blockchain is unparalleled and their expertise will be invaluable to the community’s work in building out the protocol and The Graph ecosystem.”

Eva Beylin, Director of The Graph Foundation.

The Bigger Why

We imagine a future where Proof of Stake blockchains form the basis of a healthier and antifragile internet powering the world's exchange of value and data. These blockchains will limit the power of centralized data monopolies, reduce rent seeking financial institutions and eliminate anti-social algorithms that rob us of our humanity and dignity.

The Graph, its community, and anyone investing in or building Web 3 is part of that future, and we will continue to do all we can to support this vision. If you are looking to help build this vision we would love to hear from you. Send us an email or check out our open positions if you are looking to join our team.

Looking Ahead

We look forward to being able to provide even more value to The Graph ecosystem and beyond Web 3 with this opportunity. Our core development work on The Graph will ensure that applications can launch quicker than ever before, which will provide value for all Web 3 participants.

As our presence grows stronger on The Graph, we would like to emphasize that this is a value-add for our other staking, middleware, and application layer products. We will continue to provide our best-in-class staking infrastructure, Prime, Hubble, DataHub, and Learn products to token holders and developers across the Proof of Stake space.

Let’s continue to build a better Internet together.

About Figment

Figment's purpose is to build a better Internet by increasing usage of the next generation of Proof of Stake blockchains.

These efficient blockchains give people greater control of their data, more privacy, and increase financial inclusion. By eliminating intermediaries they also limit the power of centralized data monopolies, rent seeking financial institutions and anti-social algorithms.

We bring our mission to reality by helping investors stake their tokens; earn yield and participate in securing the blockchain. Our Hubble and Prime applications as well as our governance expertise allow token holders to analyze, monitor and make informed decisions. We build Web 3 developer communities via our Learn education program and then make it simple for these developers to launch applications and manage smart contracts via our DataHub platform. And finally by building and operating The Graph based indexers we enable the efficient search and querying of blockchain data.

About The Graph

The Graph is the indexing and query layer of the decentralized web. Developers build and publish open APIs, called subgraphs, that applications can query using GraphQL. The Graph currently supports indexing data from Ethereum, IPFS, and PoA with more networks coming soon. To date, over 18,000 subgraphs have been deployed on the hosted service and now subgraphs can be deployed directly on the network! ~20,000 developers have built subgraphs for applications such as Uniswap, Synthetix, Aragon, Gnosis, Balancer, Livepeer, DAOstack, AAVE, Decentraland, and many others.

If you are a developer building an application or Web3 application, you can use subgraphs for indexing and querying data from blockchains. The Graph allows applications to efficiently and performantly present data in a UI and allows other developers to use your subgraph too! You can deploy a subgraph or query existing subgraphs that are in the Graph Explorer. The Graph would love to welcome you to be Indexers, Curators and/or Delegators on The Graph’s mainnet. Join The Graph community by introducing yourself in The Graph Discord for technical discussions, join The Graph’s Telegram chat, or follow The Graph on Twitter! The Graph’s developers and members of the community are always eager to chat with you, and The Graph ecosystem has a growing community of developers who support each other.

The Graph Foundation oversees The Graph Network. The Graph Foundation is overseen by the Technical Council. Edge & Node, StreamingFast and now Figment are three of the many organizations within The Graph ecosystem.
